What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of whole body healing that has been used for thousands of years throughout the world.  Fine needles are placed in the body at specific points which correlate to meridians, or energy channels that make up the flow of Qi in the body.  When there is an imbalance in the flow of energy, we see symptoms that correlate to disease manifesting as headaches, frustration, pain, stress, illness or colds, flu, and many other symptoms of both mind/body and spirit.  When these needles address the root of the problem through stimulating areas of the brain correlated to the imbalance, the body begins to heal itself naturally.

Typically you will need 5-10 treatments before you see a thorough change depending on the nature of your issue and the diagnosis.  Acupuncture cannot cure, but it can alleviate and help to decrease side effects of chemo, symptoms correlated to disease, and most importantly to help deal with and manage the stresses of daily life.

Part of acupuncture is traditional chinese medicine.  Your acupuncturist may prescribe herbs, supplements, formulas or tinctures to help you with your issue at an internal medicine level.  Some of the herbs are common like astragalus, and others are foreign to our region like Xi Xin.   All herbs are safe when prescribed by a trained herbalist, and are mixed with herbs that are complementary to your healing and promote wellness.
